Colossians 3:1-4 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. 2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. 3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.
It is erroneously said that a Christian should not spend time looking for the second coming of Christ. He will return like a thief in the night (1 Thess 5:2; 2 Pet 3:10; Rev 16:15), and no man knows the day or hour of His return (Matt 24:36; Acts 1:7), time should not be wasted waiting around looking in the clouds (Acts 1:10-11).
Like many ways the devil tries to lead the children of God astray, this is partially true. He tries to provide just enough truth to mask the lie he uses to disguise the truth of God. The devil likes to provide a mixture that is 9 parts truth and 1 part lie thereby corrupting the whole recipe.
God tells us very clearly in His word just where our affections are to be focused (Luke 12:34; Phil 3:20). At the same time, we have a job to do. We are to get the gospel of salvation to the entire world (Mark 16:15).
We must learn to incorporate both things into our Christian lives. One feeds off the other. The more you desire the return of the Lord Jesus, the more you desire to tell others about Him. The more you tell others about Him, the more you desire His return.
Never should we desire the Lord hold off His return so we can get the message of salvation to just one more lost soul! Never should we neglect telling someone about Jesus because the signs of the times indicates His return is imminent. We are to keep looking up and telling everybody about Jesus. It is God who will determine the day and hour of Jesus’ return.
