Seek to give that which you have received

1 Corinthians 14:36 What? came the word of God out from you? or came it unto you only?

The Corinthians were not the only ones to receive the Word of God.  Nor were they the only ones to preach the Word of God.  They weren’t the “special” ones who received the Word of God.  Likewise, they were not “special” because they were getting a “special” revelation of the Word of God through tongues.

Paul is addressing their focus on self.  They thought that God was giving them some special revelation of the Word of God through their “tongues” speaking exercise.  Paul is trying to make them see that others also received God’s Word and others gave God’s Word to them.  The emphasis is on God’s Word, NOT that a person is something special by speaking in tongues and claiming they have a revelation or interpretation.  That is a focus on self.
